Meet Jordan: Fashion Designer Extrordinaire

Scoop on Jordan: Love + Fashion

Jordan came straight from So Cal Santa Barbara to New York at 18 to begin his life as a fashion design major at Parsons School of Design. New York life was a sharp but refreshing contrast to the sunny beach culture where he grew up. It not only inspired him but rung true to where Jordan saw himself: living in one of the world’s largest culture shaping cities with endless dreams, aspirations & possibilities at his fingertips. While in school, Jordan interned at well-known design houses such as Michael Kors Collection and Isaac Mizrahi, where he was mentored and further developed his love for the fashion forward approach to luxury American sportswear.

A Reveal Fashion Co-leader, Jordan is also a fashion designer at J.Crew.

Upon graduating with a BFA from Parsons in 2006, Jordan began his career as a women’s wear designer for J.Crew where he currently designs the Tops & Outerwear  (and ladies, if you’re wearing anything that is J.Crew and has ruffles, then you are most likely wearing one of Jordan’s creations).

Jordan has impeccable taste as well as endless depth of compassion & love. He is one of those people you cannot forget who not only is a mover & shaker in his career in helping to define what is ‘beautiful’ and modern, yet also counter-culturally redefining beauty in how he chooses to love on his community and redefine fashion for women recovering from abuse & sex exploitation.

Jordan has served as a Reveal Fashion Co-Team Leader since its inception in 2006 for the annual Valentine’s Day Ultimate Makeover. From the run-way to Valentine’s Day Makeovers and monthly self-care workshops, Jordan’s eye for fashion takes a whole new dimension as he shares his passion for design &fashion. During a monthly self-care workshop, one of the rotational programs is focused on themes of fashion including basic wear from day-to-evening, business-to-weekend and practical ways to update and use what’s currently in your wardrobe or purchase at a local thrift/retail store.

Jordan co-leads as a Reveal Fashion Consultant during Reveal's annual Valentine's Day Ultimate Makeovers (this picture is from 2009 held at the W Hotel).

We remember a time when the women would ask boldly & vulnerably questions related to their personal insecurities and Jordan has been amazing at reinforcing how fashion is merely an expression, not the definition of a woman’s beauty. He continually encourages the women that everyone can have their own personal style even on a very limited budget ; it’s more of how you wear it and put things together and how to accessorize. For a lot of the women recovering from either domestic violence or sex exploitation, Reveal tangibly helps women by providing celebrations of  beauty& dignity through extravagant Valentine’s Day Ultimate Makeovers or casual Monthly Self-Care workshops showing women that they are beautiful just as they are and that they are worthy to be loved with no strings attached.

If you work in fashion, make up or hair or have a passion to serve women recovering from abuse or sex exploitation, please contact us at revealvolunteer@gmail.com or info@revealnyc.org.

The Scoop on Dan: Celebrating Women

Daniel graduated from UCLA with a BS and a MPA from NYU, Dan (also known as ‘DTM’ for ‘Dan The Man’) has worked with New York Presbyterian, Healthfirst as a senior financial analyst, and is currently at Amerigroup as Manager of Clinical Informatics.  With a career in numbers and analysis, his non-work life comprised of service to his community and the launch of Reveal NYC in 2006 where a group of men at a local church decided to love women radically on Valentine’s Day.

Years later, Dan married an amazing woman who thrives in the non-profit sector helping ethnic communities and consulting other nonprofit organizations. Dan continues to serve Reveal as the Director of Finance where he accounts for all of Reveal’s fundraising benchmarks, accounting & strategy.

Did you know that men can serve women and redefine strength for the good?  At Reveal, Dan has devotedly volunteered at Reveal’s Valentine’s Day Ultimate Makeovers as a host for the women. One of our favorite memories was Valentine’s Day 2009 when a woman Dan was hosting, completely ecstatic about her ‘new runway look’, exclaimed to Dan after looking at a professional portrait, that she should be featured on the cover of a magazine.  Dan was speechless, encouraged & deeply inspired from the women’s uplifted spirits. The women’s lovely glow & transformative joy were contagious in the room that was filled love and awe that year.

Reveal not only celebrates beauty & dignity for women recovering from abuse and sex exploitation, but also introduces women to male volunteers who genuinely care for the women whether that are hosting during the Valentine’s Day Ultimate Makeover or teaching women basics in fashion/health & wellness during our monthly Self-Care Program. If you are interested in joining the Reveal movement or volunteering for an upcoming event, please contact us at revealvolunteer@gmail.com or info@revealnyc.org.

Meet Leslie: Reveal’s Very Own Designer

The Scoop On Leslie: Living The Dream

Leslie was born to create, design & shine as her early childhood years were marked by deep aspirations to design clothing, jewelry and become a mover/shaker within the creative industry.  Years later as she moved from LA to NYC to study Costume Studies (Fashion Art History) at New York University while also launching her own jewelry business (lulugracevintage.blogspot.com), Leslie’s dreams was realized.

Reveal's Volunteer Spotlight: Leslie Living The Dream

Join Leslie as she celebrates beauty & dignity at Reveal NYC

Little did she know that this was only one chapter of many within the context of adventure & surprises as she met her husband who not only swept her off her feet, but was a co-conspirator in building new dreams (this includes the upcoming launch of Leslie’s clothing line, Lulugrace Vintage coming soon).

Leslie at a Reveal Valentine's Day Ultimate Makeover 2008

Leslie showcasing her designs and love of fashion.

Similar to other volunteers, Leslie’s dream was live and work in NYC where she could be inspired and use her passions for social change.  We met Leslie at one of the previous Valentine’s Day Ultimate Makeover events in 2007 where she played multiple roles, assisting in fundraising benefits or administratively organizing the event.  Leslie currently serves as Reveal’s Program & Events Manager where she leads the day-to-day responsibilities of Reveal fundraising events and communications.  We are always in awe of the volunteers who helped who share the same passions in redefining fashion & beauty to transform lives for the better. For Leslie, it was a childhood dream come true to not only create beautiful jewelry and clothing, but also provides meaning to her audience as she serves women recovering from local domestic violence shelters or anti-human trafficking organizations.

If you are a lover of fashion, beauty or are a culinary or administrative star, we invite you to join us in the Reveal movement to celebrate beauty & dignity to women who deeply long for change, healing & renewal.  You can contact us at info@revealnyc.org or sign up for upcoming events, news & highlights.

New York Fashion Week 2010: Rolando Santana

Concluding New York Fashion Week 2010 with Rolando Santana

WOWed. That was the excited response from the crowd at Rolando Santana’s show in the Meatpacking District held at Griffin a swanky upscale lounge & club on Gansevort St.

Reveal was thrilled to have covered the show as Rolando’s designs were unique, intricate, fresh & very chic comprising of mainly dresses for both day and evening.  The event was a fantastic conclusion to covering New York Fashion Week extravaganza and look forward to next season’s coverage.

The evening’s welcomed serendipity was meeting an amazing woman who worked for the United Nations and whose heart and passion is to fight for the rights of under-privileged women in developing countries. We talked in detail of the challenges the women face who have come from abuse backgrounds and/or cultures and the deep desire to help women know steps toward recovery begins with shifting their identity as a victim to being a survivor. We hope to strengthen relationships with NGO/non-profit leaders who enjoy fashion/beauty and whose passion is to empower women recovering from domestic violence or sex exploitation.

Join us in the upcoming weeks as we plan for the annual Valentine’s Day Ultimate Makeover as well as host a Fall/Winter benefit where all proceeds go towards providing a celebration of beauty & dignity for women in recovery. The benefit is one of the primary sources for future programs and events (makeovers & monthly workshops) and if you are interested in joining the Reveal movement or partnering with us, please contact us at info@revealnyc.org.
